NBCU Academy Scholarship

The NBCU Academy Scholarship was established in 2020 by a grant from Comcast Cable for Dallas College students pursuing a career in Broadcasting, Journalism, Radio/Television and Film. The NBCU Academy Scholarship provides pathways to help students with proven academic excellence and leadership skills in support of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a Dallas College student
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Major in Video Technology, Mass Comm-Journalism, Video Tech-Animation Special, or Journalism
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours during the period of the award
  • Must have completed a maximum of 12 credit hours prior to the period of the award
  • Must meet federal guidelines for financial need. Applicants must complete the entire FAFSA prior to the period of the award.
  • Must answer the supplemental questions –
    What are your educational and career goals and how will this scholarship help you achieve them?
    Explain why valuing diversity is important and how you will further your development in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    Describe and include community service activities you have participated in and leadership roles you have held.
  • Recipient must maintain the above requirements to receive the spring scholarship. Failure to do so could result in a loss of scholarship benefits.
  • Recipient may be asked to participate in virtual meetings and create content reflective of diverse communities that provide insight into contemporary challenges.
  • Recipient may be invited to apply for credit internships at NBC News, MSNBC, or CNBC; however, internship opportunities are not guaranteed.
